GEN 2.1  MEASURING  SYSTEM, AIRCRAFT  MARKINGS, AND  HOLIDAYS

UNITS OF MEASUREMENT

1.1

The units of measurements used in all Air and Ground Operations are in    accordance with Annex 5. Listed    bellow are the quantities in common use and their respective units of measurement:

TIME SYSTEM

2.1

Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC) is used by Air Navigation Services and in publications issued by the Aeronautical Information Service.   Reporting of time is expressed to the nearest minute. Time checks to the Aircraft are accurate within 30  seconds.

 

Sri Lanka local time = UTC+ 5.30 Hrs.

3.

GEODETIC  REFERENCE DATUM

3.1

The published geographical  co-ordinates indicating longitude and latitude in respect of Bandaranaike  International Airport (including all NAV Aids located within 10NM of BIA) and ATS reporting points within Colombo FIR are expressed in terms of the World Geodetic system -1984 (WGS84) geodetic reference datum.

3.1.1

The geographical Co-ordinates in respect of the domestic airports are given in terms of the local reference datum (Everest 1830) and will be transformed into WGS-84 co-ordinates in due course.

3.2

Area of Application

 

Area of application for the published geographical co-ordinates coincides with the responsibility of the Aeronautical Information service, i.e. the entire   territory of  Sri Lanka  as well as the airspace over the high seas encompassed by the Colombo Flight Information Region in accordance with the regional air navigation agreement.

4.

AIRCRAFT NATIONALITY AND REGISTRATION MARKS

4.1

The Nationality Mark for aircraft registered in  Sri Lanka is a combination of figure 4 and letter R. The Nationality mark is followed by a hyphen and a registration mark consisting three  letters.
