World’s Largest Cargo Aircraft, Antonov An-225 Lands at Mattala

April 18, 2018

The world’s largest cargo aircraft Antonov An-225 Mriya landed at Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport on 18th April 2018 for refueling and crew rest.

The Ukranian cargo aircraft arrived in Sri Lanka en route from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Karachchi, Pakistan.

The Antonov An-225 Mriya is powered by six turbofan engines and is the heaviest aircraft ever built, with a maximum takeoff weight of 640 tonnes (710 short tons). It also has the largest wingspan of any aircraft in operational service.

With the capacity of the Mattala Rajakaksa International Airport to handle larger aircraft and growing star class hotels in the region have enabled MRIA to attract many aircraft for such technical stops during the recent past.
