Batticola Airport Reopened for Civil Operations

The Batticaloa Airport, the new Gateway to Eastern Sri Lanka, was declared reopened for civil operations by the Hon. Nimal Siripala de Silva (M.P.) Minister Civil Aviation and Transport on 25th March 2018.

Batticaloa airport is connected to all domestic airports within the country and it is the fourth airport which will come under the purview of the Airport and Aviation Services of (Sri Lanka) limited. 

The Batticaloa airport, which has a 1,066-meter-long and 46-meter wide runway, was installed with a new runway lighting system and a new passenger terminal building at a cost of Rs. 1,400 mn. In the future, both domestic passengers as well as foreigners will be able to use this airport to meet their travel requirements. It is expected that the airport will play a key role in promoting tourism in the Eastern province of Sri Lanka.
