Launch of the 4th Edition of the AIP and New AIM Website

April 10, 2025

Marking a significant milestone in Sri Lanka's aviation sector, the Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) Unit of AASL officially launched the 4th Edition of the Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) Sri Lanka and the new website of Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) on 10th April 2025 at Bandaranaike International Airport.

The AIM Unit has developed this new AIP Edition using a sophisticated database that facilitates seamless interoperability between stakeholders’ aircraft systems. This advancement aligns with ICAO’s vision of providing digital aeronautical data to support the transition into the future AIM environment. Furthermore, the database and new software used for publishing the AIP ensure the provision of quality-assured aeronautical information, meeting ICAO’s standardized requirements for accuracy, resolution, and integrity. Eventually, with the establishment of the System Wide Information Management ( SWIM)network, stakeholders—including airborne computer systems—will have real-time access to quality-assured aeronautical information, contributing to pilots' critical decision-making processes.

The newly launched website offers a centralized platform for accessing all aeronautical information products and services provided by the AIM Unit, alongside several digital data sets available on a trial basis. These digital data sets include Electronic Terrain and Obstacle Data ( ETOD) and Aerodrome Mapping Data, introduced under ICAO’s Digital Data Sets concept. The visualization of these data sets on the website is powered by an in-house system developed by the AIM Unit itself, resulting in significant savings of millions of rupees for the company and the country.

These developments underscore the commitment of the AASL to delivering real-time, high-quality aeronautical information while strictly adhering to ICAO’s standards and guidelines. This dedication has positioned Sri Lanka’s Aeronautical Information Services among the leading nations in the region, as highlighted in ICAO’s assessment.
