Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited celebrated World Environment Day 2021 on Saturday 5th June 2021 with a tree planting and root balling event at Nagona Lagoon, Katunayake with the participation of  Major General (Rtd) G.A. Chandrasiri, Chairman AASL, Mr. Aruna Sri Warushahennedige, Director Aviation Projects, several senior officials of AASL and officers of the Bandaranaike International Airport Development Project (BIADP) Stage II Phase II. Two Magul Karanda trees grown at Bandaranaike International Airport premises were systematically root balled and replanted today at AASL’s Lagoon land symbolizing the event.
As an organization driven by a strong commitment towards sustainability, AASL has always been at the forefront in promoting a green environment through its sustainable innovation practices, as well as through its operations.

Accordingly, in parallel with the BIA development projects, AASL initiated a special program on environmental preservation. Accordingly, around 200 trees located in the airport premises with high environmental value are root balled and now ready to replant at AASL’s Lagoon land. In addition to that, around 200 trees have been earmarked to preserve onsite without cutting down them for construction purposes. Apart from this preservation plan, new tree plantation activity has also been initiated by the AASL together with BIADP.
