Our National Aviation Industry has come a long way. The Bandaranaike International Airport at Katunayake is the nerve center of the industry and is also our primary connection to the world for external trade, investment attraction, tourism and foreign employment among other things.
Our ministry, under the able leadership of our minister Hon. Nimal Siripala De Silva, guided by the vision of His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena and the Prime Minister Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe is poised to provide a backdrop that would enable the aviation industry to develop rapidly.
The challenges facing us are enormous. In one front the demand for usage of our airports is increasing and this has rendered our capacity inadequate particularly during peak operations. In another front there is stiff competition from several regional airports for regional hub status and we can spare no time in getting our act together. What is needed is a determined effort on the part of all stake holders which includes the Regulatory Authority, the Airport Operator and the Airlines to wake up to these challenges and view them as opportunities.
Amidst these developments we are committed to provide the best service to our airport users in keeping with industrial norms blended with the traditional hospitality Sri Lanka is esteemed for.
I am pleased to note that Airport & Aviation Services being the operator of our airports has taken the initiative to set the trend for unprecedented development of the aviation industry by putting the necessary infrastructure in place and operating them in compliance with international standards.
